Raspberry Pi seismograph project

I started a Raspberry Pi seismograph project some years ago but didn’t finish it.
I decided that there were enough other people working on this that I didn’t have to.
Here are some things to consider:

Have a look at an ADS1115 ADC from AdaFruit or other supplier.
16 bit conversion, programmable gain, etc.

RASPBERRY PI 4 MODEL B/8GB

The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B is the latest product in the Raspberry Pi range, boasting a 64-bit quad core processor running at 1.5GHz, dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless LAN, Bluetooth 5.0/BLE, true Gigabit Ethernet, PoE capability via a separate PoE HAT.‬

Raspberry Pi 4 Rev 1.2 Fixes USB-C Power Issues, Improves SD Card Resilience

The first Raspberry Pi 4 boards suffered from a poor USB-C power supply compatibility due to issues for the power circuitry. That means if you bought the official USB-C power supply you had no issues, but if you wanted to re-use a spare USB-C power supply or incompatible cable, you may be out of luck.

The new boards have been around for a couple of months as some users report the USB-C power issues have been fixed on new boards.
Spotting Differences in the new Raspberry Pi 4 Rev 1.2 Board?

The bad news is if you buy the board online, nobody is advertising about the new revision. If you buy in a brick-and-mortar store, there aren’t obvious differences, and the silkscreen markings are apparently the same, but you can check the new location of the WLCSP SD card voltage switch.

Checking Your Raspberry Pi Revision Number & Board Version

Methods for Finding Raspberry Pi Revision Number

Each variant of the Raspberry Pi has a different Pi Revision Number. There have now been a number of revisions to the Raspberry Pi PCB so the device you have in front of you could be one of a number of variants. The changes include mounting holes, modifications to the power supply circuitry, different GPIO headers and varying numbers of USB ports. The Pi 2 and Pi 3 introduced new CPUs and additional memory.

Finding your Pi Revision Number is a useful technique to identify what model of Pi you have and, in some cases, where it was manufactured.

WIFI Hidden SSID

Apologies if this is common knowledge, but it caught me up when my hotspot quit connecting to my wireless router after a recent automatic upgrade.  I don't know what, if anything, from the upgrade provoked it.

Add 'scan_ssid=1' between the 'ssid' and 'psk' lines of the wpa_supplicant.conf file to assure the Pi-Star finds and connects properly.

I configure my own wpa_supplicant.conf files upon years of Linux wi-fi and hidden SSID experience, but don't recall if I ever had the 'scan_ssid' line in the Pi-Star one.  In any regard, the hotspot had been working fine and only recently decided it couldn't connect to my router.  This addition and a reboot immediately fixed the problem.

Installing LibreELEC Kobi on the Raspberry Pi

In this guide you will learn how to install LibreELEC to your Raspberry Pi. LibreELEC is a cut down Linux distribution that has been built just to run the Kodi media player as fast as possible. It is a continuation of the popular OpenELEC project.

LibreELEC is an open-source Linux distribution with just enough packages installed for Kodi to be able to work.

The project started as a fork of the now-abandoned OpenELEC project. LibreELEC is meant to provide an operating system that contains the bare necessities to run the Kodi media center software.
